We Read Every 'Top Branding Agencies in Bangalore' List. Here Is Who Writes Them.
We fetched every ranking list for 'top branding agencies in Bangalore' on one day. Seven of seven agency-authored lists put their own publisher at number one. Two run the identical ten names with the top slot swapped. One ranking page is empty. The receipts, and how to read these lists as a buyer.
Part of Branding and identity. Start with the overview: Brand Identity vs Logo: What the Difference Actually Is, and Who Feels It First.
On 1 September 2026 we fetched every list ranking on page one of Google for "top branding agencies in Bangalore" and recorded who published it, who ranked first, and what each page disclosed. The headline result: seven out of seven agency-authored lists placed their own publisher at number one. This article is the receipts, page by page, followed by the more useful part: how to actually use these lists when you are shortlisting.
**Full disclosure, because it is the entire point: we run a branding agency in Bangalore, and we publish a list like this too, with ourselves first. The difference we claim is not purity. It is that we say so in the first paragraph, state the criteria, and link every competitor. Judge whether that difference matters by the end of this page.**
What we found, list by list
Everything below was observed directly on the named page on 1 September 2026. Where something could not be verified, we say so. One deliberate choice: we name every list and link none of them, because inbound links are the currency these lists trade in, and this article is not paying.
Mellow Designs' "Top 10 Branding Agencies in Bangalore in 2025". Published by a Bangalore branding agency; Mellow ranks itself first. No selection criteria and no disclosure on the page.
Brandemic's "Top 10 Branding Agencies in Bangalore", published on LinkedIn. This is the article that ranks in Google's top five for the query, and it is written by Brandemic, which ranks itself first. Here is the detail we did not expect: Brandemic's ten names are the identical set as Mellow's ten. Same nine other agencies. Each publisher simply swapped itself into the top slot: Mellow sits fifth on Brandemic's list, Brandemic sits second on Mellow's. Both pages carry a line saying the agencies are not ranked in any particular order, above a numbered list with the publisher at number one.
Wilson Wings' "10 Best Branding Agencies in Bangalore". Publisher first, on a numbered list, on a page that simultaneously states the agencies "have not been graded in any specific order". Originally dated 2023, retitled as updated for 2025.
The Factor X's branding and packaging list. Publisher first, and to its credit the page says openly that it has put itself at the top. The most honest of the seven, in its way.
ThunderClap's B2B branding list. Publisher first. This one at least states evaluation criteria, which is more methodology than the other six offer.
LapaOne's list of sixteen. Publisher first, no criteria, and the list includes a directory website as one of the sixteen "agencies". It also, we note with a straight face, includes NOW Media at number eleven. We did not ask, pay, or know.
Wings Design Studio's "Ultimate Guide" to five agencies. Publisher first, bylined to the publisher's own senior graphic designer.
And one more. A marketing agency's "Top 10 Branding Agencies in Bangalore" page that ranks for the query serves an empty article: a headline, share buttons, and no list at all. We checked the raw HTML and a fully rendered browser session; there are zero agency names in the body. A page with nothing in it is competing for your shortlist.
The directories are a different machine
Clutch's Bengaluru branding page, which usually ranks in the top three for these queries, is built differently: its order is driven by verified client reviews, and its header discloses, in its own words, "We may earn a fee for some placements". The page opens with a labeled Featured block, which is the paid slot, above the review-ranked results. Read it accordingly: the review counts are real signal, the Featured position is advertising, and the two sit side by side.
The most telling cross-check in our data: the review-backed names at the top of Clutch's Bengaluru list and the names in the agency-authored listicles are almost completely disjoint sets. The listicle circle cites each other; the directory tier accumulates client reviews; barely anyone appears in both. Two parallel reputation systems, and a buyer usually samples both without knowing either's rules.
Why everyone does this
Because it works, mechanically. A "top agencies" listicle targets the exact phrase buyers search, and Google's page one for that phrase has no neutral publisher to outrank: it is agencies ranking agencies. Publishing your own list, ranking yourself first, and cross-featuring a fixed circle of peers is the whole playbook, and nobody in the circle has an incentive to break it. We found no evidence that anyone paid anyone for placement in the agency-authored lists. They did not need to. The currency is mutual inclusion.
How to use these lists anyway
They are still useful, read correctly:
- Use them as longlist generators, never as rankings. The names that appear across several unrelated lists have at least market recall. The order means nothing except who published.
- Cross-check against the review layer. A studio on five listicles with zero verified client reviews anywhere, and a studio on zero listicles with twenty verified reviews, are telling you different things. Check both systems.
- Then ignore all of it and run real checks. Strategy depth, system thinking, who does the work after the pitch: the working checklist is designed to be run from outside on any studio, including ours.
FAQ
Are "top branding agency" lists paid placements?
The agency-authored lists we checked: no evidence of payment, and no need for it, since publishers rank themselves and trade inclusion with peers. The directories are explicit that some placements are paid while reviews drive the rest. The honest summary: every list is written by someone with a position in the market, so read the publisher before you read the list.
Why should we trust your list then?
On the same terms as everyone else's, which is to say: verify it. Ours differs in disclosure, stated criteria, and linking every name so you can check our read in one click. The claims are checkable; that is the only trust any of these lists should get.
What is the most reliable signal when shortlisting?
Verified client reviews plus old-client references plus one question in the first call: who exactly will do the work. No list, including ours, substitutes for those three.
